Spiral Vibration Damper
01 — Overview
- Code
- SYN-T1-SVD-1346
- Type
- Type-I — Helix type (Heavy duty)
- Drawing
- TEC GR 11.13
Wind across a tensioned cable sheds vortices that drive it into resonance, and resonance at the termination is what eventually breaks fibres. The damper is a single helically formed PVC rod with a tight gripping section that holds the cable and a long, open damping section that adds distributed mass and aerodynamic irregularity. Fitted on both sides of every suspension fitting.

04 — Why it's built this way
- UV stabilised with titanium dioxide
- Surface hardness chosen so it cannot abrade the cable jacket
- Ends rounded and deburred against jacket damage
- Non-corrosive — nothing to stain the cable over a decade on the span
